Hebrew SeniorLife (HSL) is a 100+-year-old organization dedicated to
providing seniors with the highest quality of life through an integrated
network of health care, research, housing and teaching programs in the
Greater Boston area. It is the largest nonprofit provider of senior
health care and housing in New England. Our mission is to honor our
elders by respecting and promoting their independence, spiritual vigor,
dignity and choice and by recognizing that they are a resource to be
cherished. Our health-care network comprises Hebrew Rehabilitation
Center, a long-term, sub-acute, and long-term medical acute care
facility in Boston; three senior housing sites-Jack Satter House in
Revere, Simon C. Fireman Community in Randolph, and Center Communities
of Brookline; and Orchard Cove, a life-care community in Canton. The
Institute for Aging Research in Boston, affiliated with Harvard Medical
School, is one of the most prestigious aging research facilities in the
country. HSL's NewBridge on the Charles, our premier multigenerational
continuing care retirement community in Dedham, consists of 256
independent living units, 50 assisted living units, 41 memory support
assisted living units, and a 268-bed Health Care Center, which offers
long-term and sub-acute care. Hebrew SeniorLife also offers services to
the community, including Adult Day Health programs and outpatient
clinics in audiology, exercise, memory disorders, osteoporosis
screening, and rehabilitation.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Controller within our
Hebrew Rehabilitation Center (HRC), wholly owned subsidiary of Hebrew
SeniorLife. Reporting to the VP of Fiscal Services, you will be a
'hands-on'? manager, responsible for general ledger accounting,
financial reporting, annual audits, billing, accounts receivable, and
internal controls for HRC and its affiliated operation, the Institute
for Aging Research (IFAR). You will also lead the centralization of the
accounts payable and payroll functions for all of the entities under
Hebrew SeniorLife, including HRC, NewBridge on the Charles, Orchard
Cove, Center Communities of Brookline, Satter House and the Simon C.
Fireman Community. The position will also involve managing department
personnel activities including hiring, training, and scheduling staff
members, establishing performance standards, and evaluating performance.
You will provide the leadership necessary to drive the department
towards meeting their goals.
Bachelors or Master's Degree in Accounting, Business or Public
Administration, or Finance is required. CPA preferred. Six to ten years
of relevant progressive experience in a hospital corporate accounting
environment, supervising direct reports is required. It is essential for
you to have a keen sense of process management and the ability to drive
process change and improvement. Experience with a medical teaching
facility and research grants is a plus. You should have expertise with
healthcare financial accounting software. You must have demonstrated
ability to effectively manage a budget, manage staff, recruit, train,
motivate, and mentor. You must be proactive and results-oriented; have
an optimistic and positive demeanor, with the ability to maintain a
collaborative environment; have the ability to adapt to changing
priorities and display good, sound judgment; superb organizational and
analytical skills; streamline work volume in order to maintain bottom
line efforts. You should be innovative, think strategically and
conceptually; manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting
deadlines with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to quantify
operational decisions and offer value added or cost savings alternatives
without sacrificing member services or organization's mission.
